new look, same drivel

in what i could class as the quickest redesign i've ever executed (thanks in no small part to the highly modularised structure of server-side code, and the use of CSS, of course) i present the fruits of 3 whole evenings of hard labour: splintered - the THX 1138 edition.

there are still tweaks and fixes planned, and some more substantial additions to the codebase that i'd like to implement (commenting, pingbacks, a more elegant handling of portfolio images on the individual project pages) but i needed to get this one out of my system first...
